Every year 5,000 veterans transition into civilian life, yet despite the best efforts at a smooth transition many fall through the cracks, often reaching care late in the course of disorders. Transitioned ADF face a range of mental disorders:
- 46.1% self-reported anxiety disorders
- 24.9% posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- 20% experienced suicidal ideation, made suicide plans or attempts
Despite significant investment in raising awareness about suicide and other mental health conditions, only 10% of veterans are engaging with the 3,000+ ESO’s that exist nationwide. One of the core reasons for this is that far too many veterans have no idea what services are available to them, or where service providers may be located.
That’s why Team Soldier.ly are initiating Project Overwatch, a deep data dive designed to discover where veterans live by postcode across the country, and then map what services are available to them from official ESO’s and other providers. Here’s an example;
